Inspired by the Bohemian mecca of the 20th century in Montmartre in Paris, France, experience one of the hopeless yet romantic stories from New York centered on Christian, a wishful American writer, and Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, as they defy all odds and challenges for the each other. Taken from the iconic 2001 film by the famous Baz Luhrmann, the Broadway hit stage adaptation of Moulin Rouge transformed from a longing fantasy of viewers to an actual musical production that in the end produced successfully on the theatre setting and debuted in 2019.

In 2019, first showing at the Al Hirschfeld theatre, the 2001 film Moulin Rouge was converted into the well-loved musical adaptation in Broadway. Originally produced by Baz Luhrmann, it was performed beautifully by award-winning cast members like Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo, who were the original cast members of Christian and Satine respectively, and creative experts including director Alex Timbers and music scoring and creations by Justine Levine, behind the curtain.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is an adaptation full of the triumph of love against odds that touches on all four Bohemian values of truth, beauty, freedom, and love. At the end of the 19th century and at the height of Bohemianism, during the time period of La Belle Époque, Christian, an American writer and composer, tries to find his big career break. He dreams to set in motion a chance to succeed as a writer and journeys to Montmartre, Paris, where he meets two new friends, Lautrec and Santiago, who tell him to create a musical that they can put on. It is in the underbelly of the Moulin Rouge nightclub where he meets Satine, the performer of the Moulin Rouge that he wishes to get to know more. Their budding relationship however meets an almost insurmountable obstacle in the person of the wealthy and corrupt Duke of Monroth, who is promised Satine by the nightclub’s owner Harold Zidler, in exchange for a considerable financial investment to keep Moulin Rouge afloat and bring Moulin Rouge up to the next level. So starts Christian and Satine’s secret and tragic love affair on the live stage.
Fundamentally a classical story that remains a sure favorite in current times, the musical is also a mixture of both ballads and pop music, combining arrangements not just from the 2001 film, but also musical mash-ups and renditions from popular songs that were woven into the creative direction of the musical.
