Defying Gravity: Stephen Schwartz at Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre

On Friday 24th January 2025, Stephen Schwartz, the multi award-winning, and renowned musical theater composer and lyricist, brings to the center stage of the Thelma Gaylord Pat, at the Civic Center Hall in Oklahoma City, the stage production, Defying Gravity. Stephen Schwartz is the extremely talented musical theater composer, having penned the music AND the lyrics to a large number of big theater draw cards, not only for the popular Disney productions, but also for major theater performances.

If the older members of theater can remember, Stephen Schwartz composed the music and lyrics to the plays Pippin, the 1972 musical, Butterflies Are Free and Godspell, starting his collection of awards. He began writing songs for Pippin while still in college, and although these versions were not included in the theater production, the revamp a few years later did include songs written by Stephen Schwartz. Of course, you will remember the song, Defying Gravity, as the climatic ending to part one of the production Wicked,
